Cardi B Doesn’t Have Time For Slut-Shamers

On January 26, our Lord and Savior, Cardi B became the first female performer at the AVN Awards (affectionately dubbed the “Oscars of porn”). The historic performance closely followed the breaking announcement that Cardi will have an upcoming Vegas residency at the Palms Casino Resort. And, to top it off, she’s got five -- count ‘em, FIVE -- Grammy nominations this year alone with her debut album, including the highly coveted “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year.” One might say this queen is living her best damn life, and I would wholeheartedly concur.

But, alas, the people of the Internet have found yet another way to discredit Cardi’s hard work and success… by slut-shaming. That’s right. In 2019, we are STILL chastising women for embracing their own sexuality and for showing off their own bodies in a proud moment of self-love.

In a series of Instagram posts, Cardi showed off her fits prior to her performance at the AVN Awards which included a Boomerang of her sexily grinding on a couch in her show-stopping lingerie looks. After receiving comments calling her a slut for exposing her body and sexualizing herself online, Cardi dismissed the haters in true IDGAF fashion: by posting another sexy pic captioned “Can I be sexy one time and not get called a slut? Sheeesh!” Metaphorically, she gave a big ol’ middle finger to the slut-shamers who asserted she wasn’t setting a “good example” to her younger fans.

Why is it so wrong for a woman to have confidence in her own skin? There is no right or wrong way to present oneself online. What matters is allowing every individual the right to determine what they want to do with their own body. More importantly, even though celebrity status requires a life in the public eye, it doesn’t mean the public is allowed to control the celebrity. They are human, just like us.

Slut-shaming has often been used as a tactic to discredit all of Cardi’s accomplishments. But, if you ask me, she sets an amazing example by continuing her grind and rubbing her success in the haters’ faces.
